Roof Replacement Epping
This job came to us because of a common problem: leaking gutters that had been left too long. The homeowner in Epping had been putting off a full re-roof for a while, but our 20% discount offer gave them the push they needed to get it sorted properly rather than keep patching things up.
Once we got up there, it was clear the old roof had reached the end of its useful life. What might have looked like a simple gutter issue from ground level turned out to involve more than that once our team had a proper look at the timbers underneath.

Stripping back to the timbers
With any roof replacement, you don't really know what you're dealing with until the old covering is off. In this case, there was some damage to the timbers and decking that needed fixing before anything new could go on. We wouldn't fit new tiles over a compromised structure, so this got sorted first, as it always should.
Once the deck was sound, we fitted a breathable membrane conforming to British Standards across the whole roof, then laid charcoal Marley tiles on top. We used a dry ridge system and a dry verge system rather than traditional mortar, which gives a neater finish and holds up better over time without the cracking and pointing repairs that mortar ridges often need.
Flashing, valleys and ventilation
We fitted new lead flashing and worked on the valleys and box gutters as part of the job, since the old detailing was contributing to the leaks the customer had been dealing with. Poor flashing around joints and valleys is one of the most common reasons a roof lets water in, even when the tiles themselves are fine.
We also added ventilation improvements while the roof was open. Getting airflow right matters more than people think. Without it, moisture builds up in the roof space and can shorten the life of the timbers and the new covering, so it was worth doing properly while everything was accessible.

Chimney work and scaffolding
There was chimney work involved on this project too, which we carried out as part of the same visit rather than treating it as a separate job. Doing it all together meant one lot of scaffolding, one access period, and less disruption for the customer overall.
We arranged the scaffolding ourselves, as we do on every job of this size, and the whole re-roof was completed in two days. That's a reasonable turnaround for a full replacement with chimney and flashing work included, and it kept the property secure and weathertight without a long gap between old roof coming off and new roof going on.
Fascias and gutters while we were up there
With the scaffolding already up, it made sense to deal with the uPVC fascias and gutters at the same time. These get overlooked on a lot of re-roofs, but if they're tired or damaged, they'll undo some of the benefit of a new roof covering fairly quickly. Sorting them alongside the tiles meant the whole roofline was dealt with in one go, rather than needing scaffolding back on site a year or two later.

The finished roof
The difference between the roof we started with and the one we left behind was considerable. Where there had been leaking gutters, tired flashing and a roof structure needing attention, there's now a sound, weathertight roof with charcoal tiles, proper ventilation and new guttering to match. It's the kind of job where the quality of workmanship shows in the small details as much as the overall finish, from the neat dry ridge line to the flashing around the chimney.
This roof comes with a 10 year guarantee, and all our work is covered by public liability insurance, so the customer has proper peace of mind alongside the new roof itself. Building regulations sign-off wasn't required for this particular project, which kept things straightforward from start to finish.
