Landscapers Borehamwood
Old Surface Cleared Before Work Began
This job in Borehamwood started with an existing surface that needed taking out before anything new could go down. Our team stripped it back completely, cleared the area and checked the ground below to see what we were working with. Getting this stage right matters more than people think, since a patio is only as good as what sits beneath it.
The customer wanted a full patio installation covering around 50 square metres, using light grey porcelain pavers throughout. It's a popular choice at the moment, and for good reason: the finish is consistent and it copes well with the British weather.

Sub-Base and Porcelain Pavers
Once the old surface was out, we installed a proper sub-base across the full area. This isn't a step you can skip or rush. A sound base keeps the pavers stable and stops movement or settling further down the line, particularly with a project of this size.
With the base compacted and levelled, we laid the porcelain pavers in light grey. Porcelain has become a go-to material for patios because it holds its colour, resists staining better than natural stone, and doesn't need the same level of upkeep. Over 50 square metres, consistency in the laying pattern was important, and we took the time to get the joints and lines straight throughout.

Drainage and Edging
Drainage was factored in from the start. Water needs somewhere to go, and on a patio of this scale, getting the falls right prevents pooling after rain. We built the necessary drainage considerations into the sub-base and finished levels before a single paver went down.
Borders and edging were added around the perimeter to give the patio a defined finish and to keep the pavers locked in place at the edges. This also helps protect the sub-base underneath from erosion over time, especially where the patio meets lawn or borders.
Finish and Texture
A finish and texture were applied to the porcelain surface as part of the installation, giving the patio a practical, usable surface underfoot rather than something purely flat and smooth. This is worth thinking about for any outdoor paving, since a slippery surface in wet weather isn't much use to anyone.

Three Days, No Access Issues
The whole job was completed in three days. There were no access challenges on this property, which kept things moving without delays. That's not always the case on residential jobs, so it made a difference to the schedule.
