Torch-On Felt Roofing Enfield
A customer in Enfield got in touch after noticing a persistent leak coming through the flat roof. With winter approaching and the old covering well past its best, they decided it was the right time to act rather than wait for the weather to make things worse. HighPoint Roofing and Building were brought in to carry out a total roof replacement, and the whole job was completed in a single day.
The existing felt had given up and water was getting through, which is never something to leave once the colder months set in. Rather than patch over the problem, the decision was made to strip everything back and start fresh. That approach tends to give a better long-term result than a quick repair, particularly on a roof that's already showing its age.

What the job involved
This was a full flat roof replacement using a three-layer system of high-performance torch on felt, finished in a charcoal grey from the Rose range. Torch-on felt is applied in layers and bonded with heat, which gives a stronger seal than older cold-applied systems and holds up better against standing water over time. Beneath the felt, a high-performance underlay was fitted to give the whole build-up an extra layer of protection.
Insulation was also fitted as part of the works. On a flat roof this makes a real difference, both to how the property retains heat and to the overall lifespan of the roof itself, since it helps reduce the temperature swings that can cause felt to crack or blister over time.

Flashing, valleys and ventilation
Lead flashing and valleys were replaced as part of the works. These are the details that most often get overlooked on a roof job, but they're usually where leaks start if they're not sealed properly. Ventilation was also improved while the team were up there, which helps manage moisture build-up underneath the felt and should reduce the risk of condensation-related problems further down the line.
There was no damage to the timbers or decking underneath, which meant the job could move straight ahead without any delays for additional structural repairs.

Fascias and guttering
While the roof was being worked on, the team also replaced the fascias and guttering. Doing this alongside a felt roofing job makes sense, as it means scaffolding and access only need to be set up once, and the finished roofline looks consistent from edge to edge rather than having an old gutter run sat beneath a new roof.
Why now
The customer wanted the work done before winter arrived, and took advantage of an offer running at the time. It's a sensible time of year to get flat roofing sorted, since a leak that's manageable in summer can turn into a much bigger problem once the rain and cold properly set in.
The finished roof
The difference between the old roof and the new one is hard to overstate. What was a leaking, tired covering is now a sound, properly insulated roof with new flashing, improved ventilation and tidy fascias and guttering to match. The job comes with a 10 year guarantee, and HighPoint also carry public liability insurance for every job they take on.
What stood out most on this one was the standard of workmanship throughout, from the felt itself down to the smaller details like the valleys and flashing. It's the kind of job that, once finished, you shouldn't need to think about again for a good long while.
