This job came in from a homeowner in London whose roof had reached the end of its working life. Tiles were slipping, the felt underneath had perished, and water was finding its way into the loft space. Stripping Back and Starting Again

The roof replacement used charcoal Marley tiles laid over a breathable membrane felt conforming to British standards. Forty-nine tiles went down across the roof, finished in a rustic red tone the customer chose to tie in with the rest of the property. New UPVC fascias were fitted at the same time, tidying up the whole roofline in one visit rather than leaving it for another day.

Flashing, Ridges and Ventilation

Lead flashing and valleys were replaced where the new roof met existing brickwork, and we fitted a dry ridge system along the apex rather than the old mortar bedding, which tends to crack and drop tiles over time. We also improved the roof's ventilation while we were up there. Better airflow through the loft space cuts down on condensation, which in turn helps the new timbers last longer.

Chimney and Guttering

The job also involved work on the chimney, including removing part of the stack that was no longer needed. New UPVC guttering went in to match the fascias, so the finished roof reads as one job rather than a patchwork of old and new sections bolted together.

No Structural Surprises

Worth noting: there was no damage to the decking or roof structure that needed sorting before work could begin, and the job didn't require building regulations sign-off. That kept things straightforward and meant the three-day schedule held without any hold-ups waiting on approvals or extra materials.

The Finished Result

Once the scaffolding came down, the difference was obvious. The old roof had been leaking and past its best for some time; what's there now is a tight, weathertight covering backed by a 10 year guarantee.
